Veteran & Military Therapy in Mid-Michigan
You served your country. Now let someone serve you. Confidential, straight-talking counseling for veterans, service members, and their families — based in Alma, serving all of mid-Michigan.
Counseling that speaks your language
The transition never really ends. Whether you got out last year or decades ago, some things stay with you.
The hypervigilance that kept you alive downrange doesn't switch off at home. The losses stack up. Civilian life can feel aimless after the mission, the structure, and the brotherhood. And "sucking it up" only works for so long before it costs you your sleep, your marriage, or your sense of who you are.
Dan Klaasse, M.S., LLPC, works with veterans, active-duty service members, and military families who are ready to deal with it head-on — without being judged, pathologized, or handed a pamphlet. Practical, confidential, and grounded in respect for what you've carried.

Why private pay matters for those who served
Confidentiality isn't just comfort — for many veterans and service members it's about protecting security clearances, careers, and privacy. Cognitive Edge Counseling is private-pay first by design.
- No mental-health diagnosis on an insurance record unless you choose to bill
- Care that isn't limited by what a health plan will approve
- A confidential space independent of the VA and command
- Insurance is accepted if you prefer it — the choice, and the privacy, stay yours

Common questions
Do I have to go through the VA?
No. Cognitive Edge Counseling is independent of the VA. Many veterans choose private pay specifically to keep care confidential and separate from their VA and service records.
It's been years since I served. Is it too late?
No. Combat and service-related stress can surface decades later, often triggered by new losses or life changes. It's never too late to get support.
Will this affect my clearance or career?
Private pay keeps your treatment off insurance records, adding a layer of privacy. Your reasons for coming in stay between you and Dan.
Do you take insurance?
Insurance is accepted but not required. Many who served choose private pay for confidentiality — call and we'll walk you through your options.
